Introducing The Bridge!
We’re excited to announce the launch of The Bridge, a new initiative at The Victoria Centre designed to empower entrepreneurs and breathe new life into Southend-on-Sea’s High Street. This unique program offers a game-changing opportunity for both emerging start-ups and established businesses looking to scale up.
What Is The Bridge? In collaboration with Southend-on-Sea City Council, the Management Team at The Victoria Centre, and the national movement SaveTheHighStreet.org, we’ve created The Bridge - a project dedicated to transforming an unused space within our bustling shopping centre. The aim is simple: to support dynamic entrepreneurs who have the passion and vision to bring something unique to our community.
A Prime Retail Space Up for GrabsSix lucky businesses will be selected to receive a 500sq ft retail unit in a prime location within The Victoria Centre - completely rent-free for six months. This incredible opportunity is designed to give local entrepreneurs the platform they need to thrive, offering not just a physical space but also the tools and support necessary for success.
Comprehensive Support for Sustainable GrowthWinning applicants will receive more than just a retail unit. We’re offering expert guidance from industry leaders, covering everything from business planning and forecasting to marketing strategies. This holistic support is intended to help businesses make the most of their time at The Bridge, with the goal of fostering sustainable growth that extends well beyond the initial six months.
Why This MattersThe Bridge isn’t just about filling a retail space; it’s about revitalising our High Street and supporting the local economy. As Dennis Baldry, Centre Manager at The Victoria Centre, notes, “This initiative is very exciting, bringing in projects that will support and mentor local businesses. The Bridge is a great opportunity for Southend-on-Sea, and I’m pleased to be part of something that will make a real difference to our city.” Jonathan Mather, Asset Manager for Southend-on-Sea City Council, echoes this sentiment, stating, “The Bridge project perfectly illustrates why the Council purchased the Centre – to reinvigorate the City Centre.” Cllr Matt Dent, Cabinet Member for Business, Culture & Tourism, also expressed his enthusiasm: “This is a fantastic initiative to work with entrepreneurs, or start-ups, and give them a helping hand. We really want to encourage people with new ideas and new businesses to take that risk and go out there and try and make it work.”
